Roller coasters relate to life everyday for people. Sometimes, we act just like the way roller coasters do. Everyone uses potential and kinetic energy everyday of their lives, just like roller coasters do. Potential energy can also just be called "stored energy". An example of a roller coaster using potential energy is when it is climbing up a large hill. As it moves up the hill, it gains more and more energy. The second it reaches the top and drops though, all the potential energy will be gone and totally converted to what is called kinetic energy, or "the energy of motion". An example of a person using potential energy could be as if somebody was jogging and got tired. If the person starts walking for a while, they will build up their potential energy to get ready and jog again. When the person isn't tired and ready to jog, the potential or stored energy will convert to kinetic energy, or the energy of motion. One last example of potential and kinetic energy can be just a simple unopened can of carbonated soda. The can is pressurized with gas but the can isn't in any sort of motion and has a great amount of stored or potential energy. When the can opens, the pressure gets released and there is no longer potential energy, it converts to kinetic energy. Every single day of our lives, we act like roller coasters with potential and kinetic energy.
